Happy Monday

Thank you very much to those who came out to help with our fundraiser for the Dupuis Family on Thursday, and again on Saturday for our Grad Trip fundraiser. We will need to schedule a meeting time after school some time in the next few weeks so we can discuss what our Grad Trip Goal(s) is/are and determine how much we will need to raise in total, and how we plan to accomplish this.

This week, like all before it, will be a fast and fun filled schedule.

Monday: Anishinaabemowin in the NSL room; gym (first round of ‘you be the teacher’); Digging Roots presentation – for those interested in the potential of a career in the Music Industry; All other students will be working on ketchup or any upcoming assignments/activities; Senior Boys’ Drum group will be working with Dan and Digging Roots from 2:00 on.

5 Students are needed to assist with the grade 2 tubing fieldtrip on Friday; you will be gone from 9-1:30 (Note: You MUST wear a helmet).

NOTES** New spelling list — test Friday; First Nations’ Library Week Book Mark submissions is due Wednesday. This week’s Virtue response is also Due Friday; Your NSL homework is to study your January vocabulary sheet for the Assessment on THURSDAY. Black Math duotang is due Friday. Our “You be the teacher” PE assignments will need to be ready to teach to the grade 4s and 5s starting February 13th.

Tuesday: AMAZING NEWS: The Honourable Stephen O’Neill will be presiding over our trial – come prepared for a busy day with our Mock Trial prep, trial and restorative justice circle. Lunch will be provided. Make sure you are well rested as this will be a long day with shorter breaks.

Computer Lab – letters for Paso Por Paso must be completed during this lab time — using Publisher, also create a Valentines Day card and print in Colour. Science and Tech with Mr. Fisher – Investigating mechanical efficiency through the construction of a crane/hoist. (There is no skating – we will be working with Mr. Fisher during this time– there are also only 3 students who have been bringing their skates so I am looking to find an alternate time for these dedicated students to skate with a different class at a different time/date). Still stuck at home?

Here we are on day 2 of Mother Earth taking care of herself and blanketing herself in what she needs to heal and rejuvenate over the coming winter months.

But you can still get some things done from home to ensure you don’t return feeling behind, overwhelmed, or out-of-the-loop:

I’ve added a page for this week’s spelling list (week 12) so you can study.

I have scanned this week’s Math Bellwork Pkg and added a page as well so you could print and work on it or copy the questions from your screen and complete; also I’ve included the New Years Creative writing you need to do for our New Year’s display board and this week’s virtue response handout for Orderliness.

You took home your cue cards for your test on Friday on Archimedes’ principles of buoyancy so make sure you are studying. (but I have also scanned it and added a page – tab too: you’re welcome 🙂 ).

Find 10 ‘artifacts’ for your Global Citizen Student Researcher assignment with Hoa and write a half page examination for it; and take a picture if you can.

OOPS!

Sorry everyone!

I just saw that the post on Sunday night that I made with this week’s schedule obviously didn’t save or load.

So here are the things you need to know about the rest of this week’s events

Today we are begining our next Science and Technology Challenge with Mr. Fisher – the cardboard boat design and building challenge. We are on a waiting list to see if we will be competing with our best boats in January; if we don’t we will have our own competition in June when the lake is ready 🙂

Thursday: we will be continuing with the construction of our boats; make sure you are refering to your outline to ensure you meet the requirements and do not do anything in your planning stages or construction that would disqualify your boat! Groups of 4 only!! And Skating!!

Friday: your virtue for this week, on Diligence, is due; your math bellwork package is also due. We will be baking our ancient squash and preparing for our feast/celebration! Family members are welcome to come at 1:30 🙂

Your Christmas Break begins at 3:30 🙂

Make sure you take home anything you will need over the break – such as skates.

This week at a glance

We are starting a new way to practice your spelling – packages will be handed out today with your week 10 words. You need to choose 2 of the options and complete the work in the front half of your English writing books or on lined paper and staple into your English book when completed.

Monday: We have moved the Rhythmic Basketball presentations to Wednesday in order to attend the Sacred Fire; Computer Lab – last work period for your assignments; Band; Senior Drum Group

Tuesday: Write a minimum of a half page journal about the Sacred Fire and why we had it in Rama; Geography presentations begin (2:00)

Wednesday: Gym; Band; Circle; Computer Lab

Thursday: Choir; Art; Skating — No Gym availability – Girls’ Basketball Tournament

Friday: Spelling tests; homework due; Computer Lab; No Gym today – gym is unavailable – so we will have dance instead (or go outside weather permitting)

Math Prodigy Accounts

Your Math prodigy accounts have been set up. You will be given some computer lab time during the week but it is recommended that you take some of your own time to work through the assignments posted. I print the reports from your accounts and this contributes to both your understanding of these concepts as well as your marks for your report cards. This is meant as a fun and interactive way to review concepts and reinforce mathematical understanding that you have acquired over the past few years.

Your log in information can be found at the bottom of the letter you will be taking home this afternoon.

Math quiz prep

Two things to remember about your Math quiz prep

  1. Make sure you try a few of each type of question so you are able to come tomorrow with questions if you need clarification and bring it back each day!
  2. A negative on an exponent and a negative on a number mean two very different things! For instance:

–0.00036 = –3.6 × 10–4   0.00036 = 3.6 × 10–4   36,000 = 3.6 × 104 –36,000 = –3.6 × 104

Don’t confuse these!
