As women it is our responsibility to care for the water. This begins with singing for it.

I hope to hear you all sing with me during our circles but if you are more comfortable, please try to sing in private to the water; it is certainly in danger and needs our help and protection.

Keeping Track

Here you will find the list of items you are responsible to complete. Often these are items that are begun in class but if you need additional time, become part of your homework list.

As an intermediate student, you will need to become accustomed to the fact that your homework list may be different than your classmates based on how you used your time, if you required more time, or if you were absent.

This does not, however, mean that if you do not understand something you should take it home and try and figure it out yourself. This does mean that you might find yourself needing to ask for additional assistance and perhaps even some after school one-on-one time with me. Here's where self-advocacy comes in: ask for help and you will get it. Ignore your need for some additional support (which by the way is my job), and you might just find yourself struggling and unable to complete your assignments and tasks.

Math:

Please keep your Mathtionary up to date: if you are away, check with a classmate to see if you missed a Mathtionary note.
Math test on GCF, GCM and Factors has been moved to Monday due to Band prep for the Washago Christmas Parade.
Week #7 bellwork is due Friday December 2nd.

Language

Writing assignments you should be working on are as follows
Spelling week 8 test is Friday - make sure you are studying; words and puzzle given out
Virtue response is due Friday.
We are working on Tenses -- make sure you are keeping up with the practice worksheets and ask for clarification when needed.
We have completed up to chapter 13 in Touching Spirit Bear. Make sure you have completed your 'Character Sketch' describing how the protagonist (Cole) has changed from chapter one up to now -- include his actions that demonstrated this, not just - "He was angry": How do you know this? What did he do that demonstrated his anger?

Science

Water samples will be collected with Mr. Fisher on Monday October 24th; we will text the Dissolved Oxygen (D.O) and PH levels of our various water sources; also make sure you dress for the weather as we will be outside to do this and will also be collecting other samples that you are interested in getting a closer look at with your microscopes.

Keep in mind that these are very costly tools and if you are unable to care for and use your microscope, or conduct yourself in the classroom in a safe manner then you will be given an alternate assignment -- which would be sad to see and completely avoidable!

History:

You have been assigned a 'term' which you need to research and share with the class to help everyone understand the terms used in our study of Confederation.
Also, each student has been given a small biography of one of the Father's of Confederation -- you need to summarize this and put it into your own words; these are to be typed up and will be posted on our display board showing the Changing of a Nation.

Art:

Your cover pages for English, Mathematics, Geography and Science should be completed. If they are not, they are homework. Multimedium Christmas Ornament "pile": watercolour and pastel Art. Due December 9th

Gym:

Please review the PE expectations page on this blog with your family/support at home.

You will need gym shoes and clothes on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. You will, just like in High School, be expected to change for gym so please get into the habit of bringing your things home periodically for washing.

We are also working on fitness testing -- beep testing, sit ups, planks and so on; practicing at home is one way to ensure you improve your personal fitness and see improved test scores.

Geography:

We will have a brief review of Canada and the World and Mapping skills before we switch in to Population Distribution concepts.

Review your notes periodically as this will help you be prepared for the quiz in December.

DANCE

Dance is something that we will do throughout the entire year. If you have an idea about something you'd like to do for Dance please let me know :)

We will have our first Zumba instruction/lesson on Monday September 27th during our Gym period.

Music

Students who have chosen not to be in band or who have not demonstrated sufficient commitment will be beginning Music appreciation on Thursday November 3rd.

Drum Group has been moved to Mondays.

We will be singing as a 7/8 choir at the Christmas Concert and will be practicing throughout the upcoming weeks.
